Aurora
Aurora Aksnes is born 15 June 1996 in Stavanger, Norway. Popularly referred to as Aurora and often stylized with lowercase letters, such as AURORA. Her debut E.P. Running with the Wolves was released by the record label Decca Records in May 2015 receiving great approval from musicians and music blogs as well as the press. She has recorded several high-profile cover songs, like Half the World Away (by the group Oasis) for John Lewis' Christmas advert and Nature Boy (by Nat King Cole) and have been widely praised. Katy Perry's support for her song Runaway in a blog entry added to the musician's praise. It was her birthday celebration. Aurora Aksnes earliest musical memory is the discovery of a piano in her attic and becoming fascinated by the sound it could make. Parents May-Britt as well as Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to pursue music not as a profession or a hobby, but for growth. To do this she wrote her first songs that were her own creations. As well as Bjork, she cites Leonard Cohen as an influence. She decided to start performing her songs publicly when her mom suggested they might help others not gain fame through her music, but rather to help everyone else realize their importance and the ways they could impact the world. At age 6, she began to play on the piano. When she turned nine when she began to write songs. It was not until she turned 14 when she shared her story with her parents. Aurora was not a goal. Aurora says that she likes creating songs. She says that music is her preferred method of feeling something.
